More on Hypnosis

In the early part of the 20th century, hypnosis was used almost exclusively by stage hypnotists, giving a very distorted view of this therapeutic tool. However, in 1955, the British Medical Association endorsed the practice of hypnosis in medical school education, and it has become a valuable addition to conventional medical treatment.

Stage Hypnosis

Those of you who have seen hypnosis being used on either the stage or the television, will have seen some very striking things taking place. It may appear that, with a few sentences, and maybe some snapping of the fingers, the hypnotist has induced someone to say or do something which is highly entertaining to the audience. This is the purpose of such performances; to be entertaining. What you should know though, is that the hypnotist will have worked with the audience beforehand in order to pick out suitable subjects for his purpose. This means that by the time the subject gets on stage, he or she will have been in hypnosis at least once and probably more often, and so will more readily go into a hypnotic state again on stage.
